In the Book of Mormon (chapter 46 of Alma), when a dissension threatened to overthrow the free government of the Nephite people, Captain Moroni fashioned from his rent coat a banner and wrote upon it "In memory of our God our religion and freedom and our peace our wives and our children" and raised it on a pole and called it the Title of Liberty. Then after fastening on his armor and pouring out his soul to God in prayer, Moroni gathered under the Title of Liberty the people who were desirous to maintain their liberty and went forth to rid the land of the power seeking dissenters.
